Appearance: Kate is a down to earth girl. Her clothes usually fall along the line of t-shirts and jeans, caring more about comfort than looks. Make up just isn't something she messes with on a regular basis. It has to be something for her to put more than lip gloss on. Her long black hair is usually worn down or pulled back into a ponytail. Blue eyes are set in a face that's a bit on the round side.
Personality: Not only does Kate look like a down to earth person, but she acts like one too. She's got a good head on her shoulders. Calm and laid back, she's normally the one with a cool head in a sticky situation. Things have to be going pretty bad for Kate to start panicking. Her common sense has gotten her out of trouble many of times. The good head on her shoulders also comes with a good heart. She cares about her family and friends. No matter what she sticks by them, refusing to give up on them. That same determination over flows into her work.
Special abilities/talents: Instead of using a gun, Kate actually has a wand that she has spelled to give off electrical charges at a flick of her wrist. She also carries a small paintball gun. The balls inside hold spells instead of paint, usually a sleep spell.
History: A native to Mysteria, Kate has spent her life growing up noticing that some of the people around her were different. It often left for many unanswered questions when weird things would happen. People disappearing or strange creatures appearing only to disappear later. Most children would have probably found it frightening, but Kate found it fascinating.
From a young age Kate wanted to help people. Add that to her curiosity and it was no wonder she decided to study white magic when she stumbled upon it. Living in Mysteria it was an easy thing to do. All one had to do was walk into a shop and find all kinds of books on the subject. She started out simple like spells to light a candle and simple healing spells.
Kate advanced quickly in her studies and as she learned and started to dig into some of Mysteria's past she found out why. Her grandmother had been a witch. Kate's own mother had never had an interest in the stuff. Once her own mother was dead, Kate's mother saw no reason to inform her daughter that she had came from a family that magic flowed to naturally.
Never having a desire to leave Mysteria, Kate didn't go to college after high school. Instead she decided to teach herself. She studied books on business and books on law. She did this while working in a local magic shop, saving up money so that she could start her own business. On the side she would sell spells and charms that she had made.
When she finally had enough money, Kate quiet her job at the shop and started up her own business. She works out of her home selling protection spells and charms. For the right price she'll spell your house for protection. Practicing magic so openly landed her some business with the police department, getting called in on cases that they need some supernatural advice on. Kate has since also started taking on cases as a private investigator, solving things of the supernatural natural or just ones that need a little extra magic to get the job done.
Flaws: Kate is often over confident of her skills. More often than not she bites off more than she can chew. It's not unusual for her to take on a case that probably should have been handled by someone else and find herself knee deep in trouble.
Curiosity also tends to land Kate in situations she could have otherwise avoided. It's what has lead her to look into many cases that should have otherwise been ignored. If there's a locked door, Kate has to see what's behind it. The sky's turned red? Kate has to know why.
Kate has no partner and when she's not working with the police, she's on her own as a PI. This usually means that when Kate lands in trouble, and she usually does, that she's on her own.
Merits: Nerves of steel are a good thing to have in Mysteria. Especially when shit starts hitting the fan. Kate stays cool and in control. It takes a lot to rattle her.
Kate's dependable. She's one of those friends you want to have. The one who has your back no matter what. The kind that will come pick you up from a party gone wrong at four o'clock in the morning. If she says she'll do something for you she does it.
Coming from a family that is known for producing witches, Kate's magic comes to naturally. It makes her quick to learn new spells and once she's learned a spell it tends to stick with her.
